Tomash Boren (b.1996) is an Israeli multidisciplinary artist. In his artworks he explores themes of memory and violence - personal, national, and universal - focusing on the traces violence leaves behind rather than depicting it directly. His use of materials like iron mesh, cuffs, knives, and spray paint reflects violent actions such as cutting, binding, and shooting. These techniques convey the tension between defense and attack, suffering and survival, emphasizing the fragility of life. At first glance, his work may evoke pain and anxiety, yet it also contains elements of romance and hope. Despite the aggression embedded in his materials and process, Boren’s pieces are stable and self-standing. He views the violence within the human struggle as possessing a sublime quality, revealing beauty amid the turmoil.
